Vocational Education and Training (VET) Courses

As part of your HSC, you can choose to study Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. These courses not only contribute towards your HSC and, in some cases, your ATAR, but also provide you with an industry-recognised qualification when completed.

What are VET Courses?

VET courses are nationally accredited and form part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). This means your qualification is recognised anywhere in Australia.

They are also competency-based, which means you progress by demonstrating both the knowledge and the practical skills required for your qualification. The faster you master these, the sooner you can complete the qualification.

Industry Curriculum Framework (ICF) Courses

Some VET courses are known as Industry Curriculum Framework (ICF) courses. These can be studied at school or through TAFE. They:

  • Count towards your HSC
  • Can contribute to your ATAR (if you sit the optional HSC exam)
  • Provide an industry qualification (usually Certificate I or II)

Framework Courses Available

  • Automotive
  • Business Services
  • Construction
  • Electrotechnology
  • Entertainment Industry
  • Financial Services
